Ulaanbaatar Nightlife Experience: the Temple Club

Coming from a city like Berlin, you cannot really expect a nightlife like there twice in the world.  There’s nothing comparable. But still I wanted to give the local nightlife a try. From what I’ve heard by fellow expats is that clubs here are pretty much like catwalks: it’s about to see and even more about being seen. Which means you have to dress up in order to catch up with Mongolians…AND you have to drink a lot of alcohol. It seems no night out is a real night out without being totally drunk and vomit the dinner out of you. In short – not my cup of tea AT ALL!

But there is this other place that kind of kept my attention from the beginning. It’s called TEMPLE and considers itself as an alternative place, off mainstream music with no prestige claims. So in late October I eventually managed to get there. The venue was surprisingly huge: a generous dance floor, good sound system, a cozy seating area in the front and an even larger one in the back, a smoking area and two bars. All covered in red light and shaped like an actual temple from the inside. It was such a cool venue, actually. But it was so, so empty.

OMG, how sad to see this cool place with literally no one in there. But what can you do about it?! If you pay 30,000 MNT cover charge and 8,000 MNT per beer (WTF?), you will have to dance it off. And actually once my people and me began to fill the floor, a few more did so as well and around 2 or 3 it was almost half full. I was very surprised the club played till 7 in the morning and the electronic music wasn’t too bad after all.
Oh...and also a good moment to mention I'm doing my own kind of electronic music myself https://soundcloud.com/fossit.
